Project Overview
Role: Animation, music composition, and sound design
During my time as an in-house motion designer at Shogun, I worked on this animated promo video. The objective of this animation is meant to signal the ease of customizing websites through their product while reinforcing the brand.
I took previously made designs and figured out the best ways to fluidly animate between them.
This project presented unique opportunities, learnings, and challenges.
Challenges
A challenge I faced was the fluid transitions which played a huge role in the overall animation. Outlined above is a method of using symmetry for transition balance. For the push out in the beginning there is eventually a push in, when I use a rotate right there will eventually be a rotate left, etc.
This technique gives the viewer a feeling of balance without them having to think about it. I love using this method to bring cohesion.
I learned this while taking Advanced Motion Methods, thanks for the technique Sander!
After the animation was completed I finally started working on the musical composition and sound design. Working this way allows me to really fine-tune the elements to match important moments of the animation.
We went for a techy futuristic sound which is centered around a bass line, arp, and simple drums.
Besides using various synthesizers and an array of plugins, I added some samples I found on Splice. This was so fun to make!
